Almost sounds like Mel is in need to switch now to an european theme to enhance christianism. I expect the Vikings to be shown like the Mayans in the last flick. No one will acuse him of racism now.

The reason I like Mel Gibson is that he genuinely seems to want to portray history accurately (Of course some would argue that he gives it a Christian slant. However, I'm not convinced he 'knowingly' does this). Unlike most Hollywood directors who sabotage historical events for political purposes or profit. I guess he was really annoyed with himself after the inaccuracy of Braveheart.

The hoi oligoi will never forgive Gibson for the Passion.

Very unlikely that Gibson's effort will be a patch on the original which boasted Hollywood A-listers Issur Danielovitch and Bernard Schwartz in the leading roles and was helmed by the ever-reliable Richard Goldstein-Fleischer.

That was a good movie. I'm excited to see Gibson's film. Unfortunately, it sounds like it will be from an English point of view (vikings=scary), like 90% of viking movies. It'd be cool to see a movie told entirely from the vikings' point of view and with their moral/spiritual beliefs. Now that would scare the crap out of people. Also, I believe no one has yet put a blood eagle on screen yet. Make it happen, Mel! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_eagle

My wife likes to watch the TV show "Bones," which I sometimes watch with her, and one fairly recent episode featured a realistic depiction of a corpse than had been subjected to the blood eagle.

So the killer was a viking enthusiast? This all reminds me - Marvel is coming out with a Thor movie next year (I think) based on the comic book, which is loosely based on the Norse mythology. They cast some token black as a god, but otherwise I guess it sounds OK. I don't know much about the comic book. |
